I'm starting a project to raise awareness for mental illness. This was the first group photoshoot and I'm so happy with how everything turned out. Kids are seriously my fav so I thought I would post just a few random portraits for you :) I try to take a minute to get to know each child before taking their photo. This sometimes includes chatting with them so they aren't as shy or allowing them to take a photo before being in a photo. When it's time to get the shot some stand right in front of me while others begin to run and play. Either way it's so fun to capture their personality and friendship.
Photographing this little cutie was such a dream. She has lots of brothers who have rubbed off on her. It was so cute having her just run and play, climbing on rocks and trying to feed the cat grass while I followed with my camera. I love shoots like this :)
When Codi reached out to me about doing a photoshoot to show that she is beautiful no matter the scars from her past I felt so blessed, because I personal struggled/struggle with depression. I feel the judgement others can have and the damage that can case, I want to share the message that depression is hard and shouldn't be taken lightly.
There was a dinner I attended where someone said "People with a mental illness will never be a successful business owner. They can't handle taking on the challenges owning a business has. They need to work for someone because they have to be guided and directed through life. " It made me so frustrated as the man continued to almost joke about how incapable people who suffer with depression are.
I hope that Codi's strength and sweet spirit can help others understand that it is a real struggle but mostly I hope you can take from this no matter the physical/emotional scars you or others have everyone is a beautiful individual and can accomplish anything.
We all had to go through different experiences to get to where we are now. I hope we can all embrace and love who we are.
After taking some photos of the just the beautiful blossoms I knew I wanted to do a styled-shoot, one where I would do the hair and makeup as well as taking photos. During the planning and creating process I sometimes do a sketch to help me figure out my vision for the shoot.
Once I had my vision figured out I headed off to buy fake flowers to make the flower crown. Doing my model's makeup and hair was fun because although it does take skill to be a photographer, they alone don't deserve all the credit for the final image. By creating everything that will be in the final images I feel I'm doing more than recording a moment in time; I'm creating a moment that would have never been.

Macro photography is so much fun! These bees were buzzing from flower to flower so fast I didn't know if I would be able to get a good photo but I feel pretty content with how they turned out :) If you want to see more of my work you can check out the nature tab.
Senior photos are so much fun, especially with this cutie!
